The participants also noted that sharing their experiences and\u00a0communality motivated them during the test period and will enable the spreading\u00a0of sustainable ways of living in the future. Communality originated from the Facebook group, workshops and vegetarian diet courses for example.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At the closing event, the households made a wish that the participant houses would be\u00a0monitored later and more households would participate in the activity. This is also the city’s goal, Sanna Laukkanen<\/strong>, an expert from the Greenreality services of the city of Lappeenranta notes.<\/p>\n \u2013\u2009 Greenreality Homes -information and monitoring the carbon footprints of households\u00a0will in the future be implemented to 8th graders’ homes through Junior University. Thus the homes of an entire age group are reached annually. We intend to continue activity with new volunteer homes as well.<\/p>\n The households also experimented with goods and services that support sustainable living provided by partners.\u00a0Elektroway<\/strong> provided\u00a0site surveys for checking\u00a0solar power systems, air-source heat pumps and air to water heat pumps. Lappeenrannan Energia\u00a0<\/strong>guided\u00a0the participants\u00a0in keeping track of their water and energy consumption\u00a0and lended them energy consumption calculators. The South Karelia Energy Advisory Service\u00a0<\/strong>provided tips on energy efficient living and thermal cameras for testing.<\/p>\n Autotalo Ripatti\u00a0<\/strong>provided electric cars and\u00a0Auto-Suni <\/strong>electric, hybrid and gas cars for test driving.\u00a0Shared cars could be explored through\u00a0Hertz Car Sharing<\/strong>\u00a0services. Intersports<\/strong> provided\u00a0electric bicycles\u00a0and KaaKau<\/strong> city bicycles.\u00a0Etel\u00e4-Karjalan Martat<\/strong>\u00a0arranged courses on plant-based diets for the participants, and\u00a0Etel\u00e4-Karjalan Osuuskauppa<\/strong>\u00a0provided\u00a0a shopping bag delivery service in S-Market Myllykeskus.\u00a0Etel\u00e4-Karjalan J\u00e4tehuolto<\/strong> provided\u00a0waste containers for plastics and multi-compartment waste containers, as well as\u00a0instructions on waste sorting.\u00a0Saimaarium Nature and Science Center<\/strong>\u00a0provide\u00a0instructions on the climatic effects of everyday\u00a0choices and information on the effects of climate change on the nature of Saimaa and the surrounding\u00a0environment.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \nGreenreality Homes\u2013activity and the participation of citizens in\u00a0a sustainable way of living is developed in the Greenreality Homes and Companies project.\u00a0The project is pioneered by the city of Lappeenranta and Lappeenranta University of Technology.\u00a0It is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the city of Lappeenranta and Lappeenranta University of Technology.\u00a0The Greenreality Homes test period is also part of the international Sustainable lifestyles accelerator.<\/em><\/p>\n The Sustainable lifestyles accelerator works in seven countries. From Finland, in addition to Lappeenranta, also Porvoo, Vantaa, Kuopio, Valkeakoski, Lahti, Kauniainen, Helsinki and Joensuu are members. The goal is to get\u00a0500 Finnish households to join in 2019 altogether.
